THE DOUBLE CROSS

If you have never crossed the Equator you are a Pollywog.

After you have crossed you are a Shellback.

When you cross both the equator and the international date line at the same time you are a
Golden Shellback.

We not only did that but we did it on March 21st, the spring equinox which makes us..... well .....the captain has not figured that out yet but he has started a contest for us passengers to figure out a name.

At 1 pm today King Neptune and his court arrived on the after Ledo deck for the crossing ceremony.  Us passengers were judged lightly and he focused his attention on the Pollywogs in the crew of which there were plenty for his wrath, including one of the ship's doctors.  Thanks to the folks who showed up late and stood in front of us who got there early - and would move or sit - we could not see much of the carnage but we could hear it and that was enough.  Each crew Pollywog had to Kiss the Fish and then suffer whatever punishment King Neptune declared.  With the ship's line officer present, the King occasionally let them select the punishment.

My punishment is to babysit the few usable pictures I got of the event to share with you while they upload - or don't.

Above and Below Passengers gathered for the event.

The "Fish To Kiss"  BTW it is huge, real and on tonight's menu.

The ship's officers and King Neptune to their left.

The Captain and the King.
