Vaitape, BORA BORA
It hard to explain the feeling of joy as we woke up and walked out onto our deck to this sight as we approached Bora Bora at sunrise. It certainly ranks right up there with things like seeing the Grand Canyon for the first time.
After picking up the pilot we slowly entered the narrow opening in the reef and are now at anchor roughly where I drew my crude X that looks more like a K.
The tender ride here is much, much shorter than Fanning Island where it was not only longer but there was a very heavy current which slowed the boats down. Nothing like that here. The water babies have been ashore and snorkeled and then came back and showered. After lunch we all tendered back to town and checked out the shops. There are a bizillion Pearl shops, two gift shops where you can get a T-Shirt, a store that is kind of a combination of an Ace Hardware and an Office Depot in a building a little bigger that a two car garage. There is a grocery store too but like most of the stores everything is labeled in French and priced in Francs. Arlyene now has some - I used a credit card for my T-shirt which will probably be another, whole different experience.
So I guess that is it for today. We will be back to our shipboard routine by 6 pm. Tomorrow we be going somewhere by speedboat where we will snorkel on a beach that is presumably less crowded then the ones you can walk to or the tour buses visit. We will see.
